Well despite the Generalitat closing all schools in Barcelona on Thursday afternoon due to the phantom snow scare, kids still turned up for Thursday's Drama Factory class. Hurray!

We played Mood Party and laughed a lot!

Then we moved on looking at personal characteristics such as lazy, dizzy, super positive and playing those characteristics while following simple objectives.

A simple shoe shop became a very vibrant shop with some very peculiar customers and shop keepers!!

Next week we will start to look at a play I have in mind for our summer show.

Wrap up now.....that phantom snow may well be coming....

Hello all!

I hope you have all had a great holiday and rest, and are raring to go to begin the 2011 2012 year at The Drama Factory. I have been editing a video of our last few shows, and will hang it up in the next couple of days.

The Monday group (younger group) did a wonderful performance of their own adaptation of Roal Dahl's Fantastic Mr Fox.

Mask Work last term

A few images from the Thursday (older) group, who showed their masked Commedia Dell'Arte project work work. We worked on various stock characters from the Italian Commedia Dell'Arte including, Il Capitano, El Dottore, Arlecchino and Pantalone. Well done group!

Great fun was had by all.

Hi all, it's been a while since I updated the page, due to being super busy.

The Monday class is doing really well and we are thinking about what we can do for our spring project. We have a new student, so welcome Sammy!!!

Thursday's group are also doing really well, and we have been working on status games and master servant improvisations. As the hour goes by so quickly we are discussing the possibility of extending the class by half an hour. Please let me know your thoughts on this.

Students in the Thursday group, please feel free to write to me with any ideas or activities you have that you would like to do in the class. If you can write them to me at info@thedramafactory.com before Thursday's class, but no later than 15.00 on any Thursday,

I will try and incorporate it into the class, either for this week, or next.

Sometimes it feels like we always run out of time during class time. This way, I can hear your ideas and plan them into the class without losing valuable class time.

Also please put your thinking caps on for our Christmas show. Any ideas are very welcome.

OFF TO FLYING START!

It was great to meet those new students, and welcome back the old!
The first class was great fun and we are all getting to know each other. Can't wait for next week.

Very exciting news, Josephine (Thursday group student) acted in a film called 'I want to be a Soldier?' http://sitgesfilmfestival.com. It premiered last night at The Sitges film festival, unfortunately due to a fever, I couldn't go, but thank you so much for inviting me and well done Josephine! Bet you felt dead proud! I know I do!

Class starts back!

For kids 6-9 years old, October Monday 4th at 18.00 - 19.00

For the older kids 10-14 years old, class will start Thursday 7th at 18.00- 19.00

FIRST CLASS BACK

Welcome back everyone, and a big welcome to our first comers!

It was great to see the old faces and the new, and we have a great group this year.

This year we are lucky to have the lovely Noelle helping us out.

I can't wait to get started on our project for the Christmas show, whatever that may entail, although I do have some ideas up my sleeve!

Just a few things to point out for parents.

Class now starts at 17.45 and finishes as 18.55.
Can you please wait in the corridor, until I open the door, and deliver your son/daughter into your loving arms!
Another class starts at 19.00 in that space, so we must be out of there by then.
Next class (8th Oct) I will not be there, but Noelle and Jenny will be taking the class.
The Christmas show will be performed for friends and family on the 17th Dec at 18.15.

I will be back the following week. Until then, be safe, be fun!

Summer is coming to an end and kids go back to school next week, you may be thinking of after school activities. If you are interested in drama for your kids, perhaps The Drama Factory is what you were looking for.

The Drama Factory is taking new students for the 2009-2010 intake.

Day two of the Summer School Oliver!

Just a quick note to say we were off with a flying start yesterday, day 1 of the Summer School with Active English, Libby Barnes.

We have found out what it might have been like for an orphan in Victorian England.

When were the Victorian times?

What kind of food did they eat?

What was Gruel?

What kind of food do you like to eat now and what don't you like?

After some good warm up games and movement, we then started to improvise and show each other some scenes we invented.

Then we started learning the song Food Glorious Food!

Not bad in a day's work.

We will keep you updated....but to find out more, come to our show Friday at 13.00!

There you will see the outcome of all our hard work and creativity!

Well, today will be our last class tillOctober now!

Last week we did our first performance of So you don't believe in Fairies!

Synopsis

Daniel is caught writing Tom Puck is a fairy on the school toilet walls and for his punishment his teacher, the stern Mrs Torrero, instructs Daniel he is to present a 2 page story about fairies on her desk by tomorrow morning.

Daniel doesn't believe in Fairies.....but Daniel is in for shock! He is taken down to the fairy world of the Tuatha dé Danann, ruled by powerful Titania, Daniel is taught a thing or two about fairies!!!

Introducing the children to some of Shakespeare's wonderful writing we used parts of Arial's Where the bee sucks there suck I (The Tempest) and I know a bank where the wild thyme grows, (Midsummer night' s dream) and the Irish folklore of the Tuatha dé Danann (pronounced Tua de danan).

It was a great performance from everyone! So good that we are doing it again today at 18.30.

I have posted some photos of the show from last week, but will be taking more today.

Great news also is our summer school Oliver! is full! We begin Monday 29th June.

For those not doing the summer school, see you in October, and for those coming...can't wait to meet you all!!

SUMMER SCHOOL THEATRE-SINGING-DANCING-WRITING.

The Drama Factory and Active English are running this great summer course centered around Oliver the musical. From Page to Stage.

What? This 20 hour week's course is divided into four parts, drama and improvisation, creative writing, singing and dancing. At the end of the course there will be an open performance for family and friends.

Who for? Any child 8 years old to 12 years old. Native or fluent in English.

When? June 29th - 3rd July from 9.30 - 13.30

Where? DansaArt studios. Calle Diputaciòn. 4 minutes walk from Passeig de Gràcia.

Lord what fools these mortals be...

Hi Mums and Dads and fellow Drama Factory members. Sorry I couldn't be there at class last week, I had an amazing time in Belgium at the International Storytelling Festival in Alden Biesen. I stayed in castle! Can you imagine! I hear you all had a good time with Tom though.

As most of you already know, this term we will be working on scenes from A midsummer Night's Dream and other famous fairies like Ariel from The Tempest. I guess we did enough of science last term, this term we need a little magic and fairy dust to sprinkle on our dreams!!

Also just to remind you all that there will be class this Thursday 29th April I know some of you don't have school, but we will be doing class.

Happy New Year to you all!

Well done to everyone for their great performance of the Christmas show.

You all did so well, especially as we had two members ill and had last minute re castings and re writes to do. So well done all!

I do hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year and that Santa brought you all you wished for, that goes for parents too. We still have the Kings to come!

Unfortunately we won't be back on the 8th Jan as the floor is being re sanded, but we will see each other on the 15th.

Now, as Josh and Angel were ill, and missed being in the show, we have decided to do the show again for all, so I would like to suggest doing it again on the 15th Jan at the end of class.

Enjoy the rest of the holidays, best wishes to you all and see you on the 15th!!!!

The Christmas show

So it's official, we are moving from El Centre Moral to the new space at Carrer Mare de Due de Desamparats, in Gracia.

We have our last lesson at the Centre Moral this Thursday 27th Nov.

Although very excited about a bigger space, a little sad to be saying goodbye to the familiar class we have had for the last 3 years.

The Christmas show.

The Christmas show presentation for friends and family will be on Thursday Dec 18th at 18.45

Using the Dr Seuss story The Grinch that stole Christmas for our inspiration, we are busy improvising, and creating our own story at the moment and it's looking rather interesting!

New Space!

As I have told most of you the sala that I rent for The Drama Factory is putting it's prices up in January and for the same price as the new elevated price, I have found a better place.

It is in C/ Mare de Deu dels desamparats 5 2a. If you go to the web link www.barnatango.com and then go to the drop down menu to clases and instalaciones, you can see the photos and the map of where it is.

It is a lovely sunny room with natural light, really big, and a curtain across the mirror so the kids won't be spending all the time looking at themselves, which can be a problem in Drama class!

The entrada is a little rough looking, but I promise you the room is great, there is also a changing room, so they can put their rucksacks and shoes out of the way, and a super duper new sound system, so we can really let go!

I am hoping to start there beginning of December, but the dueños want to re-sand the floor and he is not sure when it will be finished. I will keep you posted. We may just start there in Jan. Although I would like to do our Christmas show in the new space. I am so excited about it!!!!

Mothers do not be alarmed, I have found a very nice cafe round the corner where you can hang out from 18.00 - 19.00.

First class back

Well, the first drama class of this year went very well, it was lovely to see the old students and meet the new ones.

We have a great group, and everyone got on so well. The Mum's also looked like they were having a good time chatting downstairs in the cafe area.

We played lot's of fun games (some easier than others) and then created our own abstract painting, using our bodies. See attached photo.

The last activity was working around the song Splish Splash that great rock n roll classic by Bobby Darin.

After reading through the lyrics together, (well done those who helped the little ones with their reading) we had a good old sing song, then in small groups we tried to out sing each other, it really started to rock!

Next week we will begin improvising around the lyrics and creating little scenes around the song. So kids don't forget to read through the lyric sheet I gave you.

Well I am delighted to say that the group for this year is looking great!

I am looking forward to meeting all you new (and old) Drama Factory members!

This term we will be working towards the Christmas show. Should be a great theatrical event parents, so make sure you put it in your diary! 18th Dec 2008.

Any ideas for the show are welcome, I have some ideas of my own, but would love to hear yours too!

Hi all,

Welcome to The Drama Factory blog. So here we are, kids back to school after the long lazy summer holidays, and parents are probably thinking what after school activities there are for their little ones.

The Drama Factory has been running since 2003 giving native and non native English speaking kids an opportunity to be creative, meet new friends and have a lot of fun. I have had the pleasure to teach some great kids through the years. Classes are for children with a good comprehension of English and from the ages of 6-12 years old.

Classes start on Oct 2nd 2008 and finish on June 18th 2009, every Thursday (apart from fiestas) from 18.00 -19.00 at the Centre Moral Carrer Ros de Olano 9. Metro Fontana linia verde.
